This site is for the purpose of helping you to find the right dog and most important, to
assist you in your search for a reputable breeder. There are many breeders out there who
are not affiliated with any breed clubs, never showed their dogs in conformation, never
worked with their dogs in drafting or obedience.
Please do your homework carefully when choosing your breeder, feel comfortable with
them, ask questions, as most reputable breeders want you to ask these questions,
request to see documents, such as clearances for hip dysplasia, elbow, eye and heart
certifications. Most breeders will also do Von Willebrands Testing and Heart clearances.
You are not being intrusive by asking to see these documents, only a breeder who has
something to hide will not be able to provide this documentation, but you must also
remember that even though breeders go to all these lengths to certify their breeding
stock free of any health problems, these problems can still occur, but a reputable breeder
will stand by you. Whereas persons such as Puppy Mill operators once they have your
money, you will never get any help or support or hear from them again
When looking at websites, you should take note and look for the dogs with CKC
(Canadian Kennel Club) or AKC (American Kennel Club) Registered Names, a link to the
Pedigree of the dog in question, and usually the affiliation of a CKC or AKC Bernese Club,
and usually the owner of this website is, or has been active in Conformation, Obedience or
Drafting with their dogs.
